January Meetup

The Frontier Group (map)

Selected By: Matt Lambie

I know we've left this one a little late to organise, but better late than never right?

If you'd like to give a presentation (it doesn't have to be long, and it'd be great to see some other people getting involved) then let either myself or Alex know and we'll add the details to the Meetup page.

Alternatively, if you have a topic you'd like to see presented then put an email out to the group and hopefully someone will take up the challenge and give a talk.

I can talk about using rake and sinatra as libraries (As opposed to executables), if any one is interested?

    Hey guys,

    Looking forward to getting along.

I am in the middel of porting an app across to RoR and I am now at the deployment stage to a staging server to see how it all goes.

These are the things I am hoping to learn on Thursday
    - SVN(Beanstalk) to Github
    - Correct Github and Netbeans usage
    - Capistrano and Deploying to Engine Yard

Hopefully one or more have had experience and will be able to help a noob out.

    Cheers,

    LB

I'd also be happy to show anyone under the hood of my app, in particular successfully (I think) using the Soap4R gem to hook in the Betfair API. It was annoying.

    Myles: that'd be great mate!

Luke: If you can chat about Soap4R that'd also be great. I'm keen to hear what you found, as we had some hard times using it to talk to some government webservices a few months back.

As for Engine Yard stuff, we have some thing in the pipeline, which might mean we're doing a talk on their tech in the near future. Stay tuned ;)

Soap4R sucked! I think it was nice to see Ryan Bates agree so I didn't feel like a retard :P

I guess I can do a bit of a run down of some testing. I was supposed to do a testing talk last time but it's still in the works. If we have dead space then I'd like to talk about RSpec testing for Rails and get some feedback.
